About SemiCycle
SemiCycle is an index site that shows where the Korean equity market sits in its cycle. It computes the Korea Semiconductor Cycle Index (KSS) and the KOSPI Fear & Greed Index (KFG) every trading day and publishes both in Korean and English.
Why it exists
Korea's equity market and exports lean heavily on semiconductors. Yet there was no public gauge combining where Samsung Electronics and SK hynix trade against their trends with the global semiconductor index (SOX) and the KOSPI trend into a single reading of the cycle.
So the same formula was applied across the entire record since 2000. Because the history is backfilled rather than starting on launch day, today's reading can be compared with past cycles immediately.
Principles
Every formula, weight and limitation is published on each index's methodology page.
Only settled closes are used. The job runs after both the Korean and US markets have closed, so provisional intraday prices are never published as closes.
Published values are never revised. If upstream prices are adjusted later, past values stay frozen and only unpublished dates are appended.
Nothing here is a recommendation. The indices measure where prices are, not where they are going.
Using the data
The full history of each index can be downloaded as JSON from its methodology page under CC BY 4.0. Please credit SemiCycle (semicycleindex.com) when you cite it.
